A year has passed since nine-year-old Albert’s father disappeared in an avalanche. Albert loses his only friend when his tortoise, Ed, dies suddenly. Determined that Ed have the “good send-off” that his father never got, but mystified as to how to conduct a funeral, Albert persuades Kevin, the neighbourhood big shot to help, promising Kevin a non-existent Willie Mays rookie baseball card.
