The Young Filmmakers Showcase brings together the best film and video by youth from grades five to twelve from across British Columbia. Submit your short film or video to the Reel 2 Real Young Filmmakers Showcase. This is your chance to show us what you can do with a camera, your imagination and maybe a little help from your friends. If your short film or video is selected as a finalist, your work will be showcased on the big screen during R2R and you'll also be eligible to win one of 5 prizes! If you don't a have a film to submit you can still be involved. All films that are uploaded will be made available for public viewing on this website by March 1st. The film that is selected as the People's Choice award will be guaranteed a screening spot int he Young Filmmakers Showcase during the festival. So make your vote count!

Submission Guidelines
Entrants must be residents of British Columbia, who are, as of September 1, 2009, 18 years of age and under. Individual and group entries will be considered. The movie must be completed without professional assistance; adult participation must be limited to a supervisory or actor role. Films must have been completed after June 1, 2009. Running time must not exceed 5 minutes. Completed movies and entry forms must be uploaded to this website no later than February 26, 2010, at 5pm PST.

Selection Process
All submissions meeting the above criteria will be considered. A curator selects the finalists to be screened at the R2R awards ceremony on April 11, 2010. A jury consisting of film industry professionals will assess the finalists and select prizewinners based on (1) creativity and originality; (2) story; (3) direction; (4) production values; and (5) acting. Movies not selected by the curator will not be shown at the screening.

Prizes

1. Grand prize: $500 cash;
2. Best Acting: Kevin Clark Photoshoot ($600 value);
3. Best Direction: TBA;
4. Best Lighting and/or Sound: Glyph 500GB professional RAID FireWire portable external hard drive ($500 value);
5. Original Screenplay: TBA; and
6. People’s Choice: TBA.

People’s Choice Award
Starting March 1, 2010, at 10am PST all movies posted on the R2R website will be eligible for the People’s Choice Award.  Online audiences can email education@r2rfestival.org with their vote for best film (only one vote per email address will be acknowledged). YOU MUST HAVE THE NAME OF THE FILM YOU ARE VOTING FOR IN THE SUBJECT LINE OF THE EMAIL. Online voting closes on March 30th at midnight (Pacific Time). The winner will be announced on the website the following day and a prize will be awarded on the night of the screening.

2009 Young Filmmakers Showcase Winners!

In 2009 we celebrated the work of some very talented young filmmakers from British Columbia. From 30 submissions we narrowed it down to 15 films that were screened at the Vancity Theatre on February 22nd. the winners were:
