There is an uneasy peace in post-war Germany, and old rivalries simmer beneath the surface. Eleven-year-old Toni lives with his mother in a small vilage by the river, in the "gold washer's house." Like his grandfather, Toni loves searching for gold, but old hostilities continue to simmer between families, and a conflict grows between Toni and the other village children. Based on the novel by Josef Einwanger.

“The films I got to see were original, funny, touching, and inspirational, and best of all, they are not the type of things that you can go to see in a theatre... Being on the youth jury really opened my eyes up to a whole new world of information, of culture, and of art. It has been an amazing experience.” – Lauren Selden, Grade 11
