For students with an interest in digital filmmaking, but no access to equipment, the crew from Reel Youth will lead the class through the steps of making a digital film, from story idea and shooting to post-production. At the end of the day, students will learn the basics and create a short digital film.

Instructor: Erica Kohn
As a lead facilitator and editor for Reel Youth, Erica works with young people, helping them to create their own media through stop motion animation and video making workshops. She manages the Reel Youth Film Festival, a touring festival of youth made films that celebrates youth culture and helps young people share personal stories, concerns and hopes for the future. In 2007, she co-produced “GOONDA” a film made with homeless kids on the streets of Mysore, India. Erica believes that personal stories have the power to heal and that feeling heard and recognized, empowers people against oppression and into action.
Instructor: Mark Vonesch
Mark Vonesch is a film maker, a visual artist and the Founder and Director of Reel Youth. He has made over 200 films with young people over the last six years, which have been screened in Film Festivals across North America, broadcast on Television and distributed on-line. He develops film making programs and trains facilitators and teachers around using the media to empower young people to share their stories and speak up about the changes the wish to see in the world. He has recently been nominated for the Action Canada award and the Schwab Social Entrepreneur of the Year award. Mark has worked across Canada and parts of the States and just co-produced a film in Mysore, India working with children who live on the street. For more information visit www.reelyouth.ca
